Marie Sakellarion
Painter and Fiber Artist

Marie’s creative journey began nearly 40 years ago with a passion for Decorative Painting and Folk Art. Over the decades, she has studied and taught with numerous teachers and students. All the while, refining her technique and sharing her knowledge through classes and workshops.

Her artistic practice spans multiple mediums—including acrylic, oil, and mixed media. She brings her unique touch to a wide variety of surfaces such as canvas, wood, metal, and fabric. Marie's subject matter reflects her deep appreciation for the natural and domestic world, with works that capture landscapes, animals, plants/flowers, and even detailed home portraits.

An active member of the artistic community, Marie served for several years on the Board of the Yankee Heritage Tole Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters, and was a long term member of a Mass artists CoOp. In addition to painting, she explores traditional fiber arts with equal passion. Her interests include sewing, rug braiding, rug hooking, wool dyeing, and various forms of needlework. She remains an engaged member of several local braiding and hooking groups.

Marie has called New Salem, Massachusetts home for the past 26 years. Balancing her artistic pursuits with a full and dynamic life. She raised three children, worked in the biopharmaceutical industry, and managed a long-term Buddhist meditation retreat center—each experience enriching the depth and spirit of her creative work.
